When to Stay Inside Based on AQI + UV

SunUp recommends reconsidering outdoor activities when AQI reaches 101 (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups) or higher, especially combined with high UV. For people with asthma, COPD, or cardiovascular conditions, SunUp recommends limiting outdoor time when AQI exceeds 51. For children, the threshold is lower — at AQI 75+, extended outdoor activity should be limited. SunUp does not make medical decisions for you, but it flags these conditions clearly so you can make informed choices.

Try it in the app:

If AQI shows orange or above, look at SunUp's combined recommendation. It will suggest either limiting time outdoors, moving activities indoors, or taking protective measures (N95 mask for extreme AQI).

Pro tip:

Early morning is typically when AQI is lowest (before vehicles and industrial activity peak). If air quality is poor, scheduling outdoor exercise before 8am often gives you your best window.
