SunUp's AQI Display and What It Tells You

SunUp shows AQI alongside UV because both measurements determine whether going outside is safe and for how long. The combined UV + AQI recommendation is unique to SunUp — no other UV app does this. When AQI is good and UV is low, SunUp shows a green "Go" status. When UV is high but AQI is good, you need UV protection but air is fine for breathing. When AQI is poor but UV is low, the air concern drives the recommendation. When both are bad — high UV and poor AQI — SunUp issues a combined warning.

Try it in the app:

Tap the AQI reading in SunUp to see the detailed breakdown: PM2.5 levels, ozone levels, and the primary pollutant driving the number.

Pro tip:

AQI can be highly localized. During wildfire season, AQI can be Good 20 miles away and Hazardous at your location. SunUp uses your GPS location for the most accurate local reading.
